Movies for when you're sick
The last few weeks have been exhausting! Leading up to my last assignment, I suffered from bad migraines - not an unusual occurrence for me.
I went to the doctor for a medical certificate to get an extension on this huge assignment and turned out that night, I got a bad cold.
So, I was sick for the week I was meant to finish my assignment, and on top of that, I had my winter internship coming up so I was doing absolutely everything I could to get rid of that cold before I had to start. Cough lollies, dosing up on cold and flu medicine, gargling Betadine every few hours, devouring chicken noodle soup (YUM)! Literally everything!
I started my internship that Monday, in recovery but pushing through. Which was great, everyone was so nice and the environment was very chill! I got my assignment done that week as well, thank God! Finally thinking I was better, I got a fever on Monday, the second week of my internship. Thinking it would just fade away, I didn’t say anything until I got home and realised it was a lot more than just a fever. IT WASN’T COVID, by the way, YAY! So, I had to take the whole week off. Sore throat, running nose, headache but the fever was gone by day two which was a good sign. All this information is extremely boring and kind of gross so instead of going into any more gruesome details I’ll share what I did throughout the week. I did nothing… absolutely nothing! However, some might count doing nothing as doing something so here's what I did: watched movies, ate food and stayed in bed all day.
On the first day, I watched Crimson Peak which is one I had been itching to watch ever since seeing an edit of the film on Tik Tok (yes tik tok). The film definitely was not what I expected it to be which made it all the better. The cast includes the gorgeous Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Australia’s own beautiful Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), and the talented Jessica Chastain (Interstellar). The film can be described as a gory, ghost story and a gothic romance set around the 1900s. I loved it! I love gothic-style movies like a lot of Tim Burton’s movies, like Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands, which I also watched during my sick week. I’m not going to give too much away but if you’re into that kind of stuff, I strongly recommend watching it.
Not really remembering what day it was, the next movie(s) I watched were the Pirates of the Caribbean. You may think I’m strange, or you may agree, but I am obsessed with that franchise. Ob-SESSED! I don’t know what it is, I’ve always had this strange fascination with pirates ever since I was little, always reading about them and wanting to dress up as a pirate, and I just love the ocean! Anyway, I watched all of them in order and then all of them again but backward! I think the characters are incredible, the action, the romance, especially in the first three. Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom are all amazing and so ridiculously attractive. The score is out of this world and makes me cry sometimes I’ll admit. I just love these movies.
I watched the original Space Jam, with Michael Jordan, a movie I haven’t seen in years. Again, I fell in love with it! I’ve always loved the cross-over between cartoons and real-life like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, another great movie I strongly recommend!
And that my friends was what I did while I was sick for three weeks - absolutely nothing but watch great movies. In all honesty, it felt good to take that time for myself and just relax and do nothing for a change. In a way, I'm proud of myself for doing so, even though I really didn't have a choice, but I strongly encourage this to all of you! It's healthy to do nothing sometimes. You may feel guilty about it but I believe it's a great way to refresh and recharge yourself after working hard at whatever you do. So be proud of yourself! And thank you all for reading my rambling.
