New year, new life
For those who have been following my posts from last year, you would know that 2019 was an exceptionally challenging year, especially as I persisted through my Ph.D. journey. There were numerous issues outside of my control that greatly affected my life. Despite the hardship, I ensured all tasks were complete, and I continued to excel at my work and contribute 100% to the team. Last year听required me to push through one day at a time and to hold tightly to love and support from family,听friends, as well as my very kind colleagues. As difficult as it all was, I could not ignore the fact that I had so much to be grateful for. I often felt like the solitary sea turtle travelling the vast ocean and getting weary from the swim. Yet, throughout it all, I always found these islands of joy, safety, and refuge. These islands were always the people who care about me. I also held on to the passion I have for the work that I do.
I am looking forward to this feeling of rekindling as I find myself a new mum in 2020. My beautiful blessing of a daughter is growing strong, and I find renewed strength in this new role as a mother. My听Ph.D. research has greater meaning now as I continue to contribute to听the work on diversity, inclusion, and equality. This year finds me a working Ph.D. student and mother.听It certainly will be a challenging time, but most true and beautiful things are. I dedicate every day to her.
Life brings you to your knees.听It brings you lower than you think you can go, but if you stand back up and move forward, if you go just a little farther, you will always find love.Dan Fogelman, Life Itself 2018
