Chill time or study grind?
We鈥檙e all caught between binge-watching Netflix and those looming assignments during our mid-semester break.
As the mid-sem break begins, it鈥檚 time to talk about finding that delicate balance between relaxation and academic responsibilities. Every time a break rolls around a quote from my high school chemistry teacher always pops into my mind. He always persistently advised,聽 "When you are a student your holidays are a break to study, not a break from study." And as much as I hate to admit it, there's some wisdom in those words.
Sure, it's tempting to completely switch off and dive into a binge-watching marathon or gaming spree. But going completely off the grid academically might leave us scrambling to catch up when classes resume. On the other hand, burning ourselves out with guilt-driven study sessions isn't healthy either.
So, how do we strike that balance? It starts by setting realistic goals for ourselves. We need to carve out time for studying, revising, and maybe even tackling a few assignments. But it's equally important to allocate time for relaxation, hobbies, and socialising.
And let's not forget about self-care. Taking care of our physical and mental well-being is crucial, especially during a break. So, whether it's going for a run, practising mindfulness, spending time with family and friends, or even catching up on lost sleep, make sure to prioritise activities that recharge your battery.
If you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling with certain subjects, don't hesitate to reach out for help. Lecturers, tutors, and campus support services are there to assist you, so don't be afraid to go to them for help.
Finally, take a moment to appreciate the opportunity to pursue higher education. Yeah, it's a challenging journey, but it's also incredibly rewarding. So, as you enjoy your well-deserved break, remember to stay mindful of your academic goals and come back ready to tackle the rest of the semester with renewed energy and focus.
