The fringe
The Fringe is back and so is uni.
It's that time of year again, the fabulous Fringe festival is back after another lap around the sun! With the event starting so close to the university semester, it's a great time to catch up with friends, have some fun and relax before getting stuck into classes. There are so many great events throughout the city and even on campus that you should check out!
Previous years have yielded some awesome times such as stand-up comedy shows, amazing cultural music, concerts, parties and burlesque-type shows. Keep an eye out for the program for what's happening on the North Terrace campus this year.
Last year, I went to see the Soweto Gospel Choir with my partner's mother. She is an avid lover of the arts and music. While neither of us was super keen on choir-style music, we wanted to try something different and immerse ourselves in a different culture. We have absolutely no regrets. It was incredible! The group consisted of about 20 singers and a couple of drum players who had such powerful voices, they didn't even need microphones.聽
We got a great seat close to the front row and it was a brilliant experience because aside from the blast of sound, we could see their facial expressions and nuances of the show up close. The outfits were vibrant and everchanging, the drums and dancing were joyful and the concert itself was so much fun to listen to.聽
If you haven't been to the Fringe before or haven't explored this year's program yet, I strongly recommend you take a look. There is so much to discover, sometimes especially with the things you didn't think you'd like. Hopefully, I'll see you there!
