Decision making
Choices, regrets, and resilience: we undergo this process many times.聽
There are so many different choices around us. Decisions, big or small, can often leave us second-guessing, wondering if we've chosen the right path. It's the universal human experience of uncertainty.
But what if you could make decisions with more confidence and fewer regrets? In this post, I will share the art of decision-making that I have been practising these days:聽
-
Think about the purpose: Start by thinking about your goal. What truly matters to you? Is it academic success, fulfilling relationships, or something entirely different? Your life's purpose will serve as your guiding star, helping you align your choices with what truly matters.聽
-
Write on the whiteboard: Create a pro-and-con list on a whiteboard, meticulously weighing the factors that play into your choices. By seeing your thoughts laid out before you, you'll gain invaluable clarity about the direction you should take.聽
-
Talking to friends/ families: Sometimes making decisions is too heavy to bear alone. Reach out to those who know you best and care about your well-being. Their perspectives may reveal aspects of your choices you hadn't considered.聽
-
Leave it for a few days: Not all decisions can or should be rushed. When a choice impacts your finances, relationships, or your life's trajectory, give it time. Sometimes, waiting a few days can bring forth new perspectives or unforeseen developments that guide you to a more informed decision.聽
I recently found myself in a sticky situation when I purchased a non-refundable plane ticket. Unforeseen business in Adelaide forced me to choose between cancelling the flight or attending the event. This unexpected turn of events led to a bout of self-doubt and frustration, making me realize the importance of mastering the art of decision-making.
As students, we embrace the trials and tribulations, understanding that making the best choices isn't always about avoiding failure, but about learning, growing, and becoming wiser with each decision.聽聽
So, go forth and make choices that resonate with your purpose. Your destiny is in your hands, and with the right mindset and tools, you can be proud of the choices you make on your journey.聽
