Weekend wanders
A guide of things to do on the weekends when you don’t know what to do.
Ever been in that situation where it’s Tuesday and you can’t wait for the weekend to roll around so you can do all those fun things you thought you’d do. But then the weekend eventually comes and suddenly you have no idea what you should get up to. Suddenly Adelaide is this boring, little city that people are making it out to be!
Well, fret not for I know a thing or two that you can do on your next weekend off.
Have a market day
Weekdays can be very busy and fast-paced as we balance between uni and work so why not have a slow morning and hit up your local markets? Buy some fresh produce to stock up your pantry then stuff your face with some pastries made by our local bakers as you watch the world go by.Â
- – heaps of local artisanal goods, food trucks on the lawn, and vintage/preloved clothing.
- – it’s very near Gilles at the Grounds so you can have a double market day (local fresh produce, pastries, and coffee).
- – the next one isn’t happening until early June but be sure to check it out once it happens because it is one of the best markets in my opinion. Eat your way through Europe as stallholders offer handmade croissants, Belgian chocolates, Italian street food, and more. Also, it’s by the beach and it’s been statistically proven that things are just better when it’s by the beach.
Explore the great outdoors
Nothing’s better than spending a day with Mother Nature after being in the city for too long. Grab a friend and go on a hike – any fitness level will do! I’m not the fittest person out there but I do enjoy taking a slow hike up Adelaide’s gorgeous hills and taking in the view once in a while.Â
If you’re more of a water person, try your hand at kayaking in Port Adelaide. I’ve been wanting to do this for some time now because if you’re lucky, you get to see dolphins up close! Surfing is also fun whether you’re a beginner or a pro.Â
Not only are these good for your health but you’d be delighted by the things you encounter along the way. My favorite would be seeing a koala run towards a tree – I’ve never seen those sleepy fellas so active.
For the thrill-seekers
If the ideal weekend for you is doing something that would probably give your parents an anxiety attack if they knew about it, climbing the has been said to give you the thrill as well as the stunning views of the city. This is on my bucket list too though my legs are turning to jelly just thinking about it.
Which one sounds like the ideal weekend for you?Â
