A dose of moderna

A syringe

I have officially had my first dose of Spikevax (Moderna). Yay! Getting vaccinated is another to-do item I have had to tick off my list and it was certainly weighing me down.聽

No one likes vaccines.聽They are聽a painful pinch and an hour out of you day, why would you? With this being said, I was finding it really challenging to motivate myself to book in for a Covid shot, especially considering how safe it currently is in South Australia. Like the classic procrastinator that I am, the days turned into weeks and I still hadn't done anything.聽聽

One of the strange things I find with my procrastinating聽is that I tend to put something off the more it stresses me out. In this case, getting my Covid shot. There were a few聽of reasons that I was feeling the pressure to get vaccinated sooner rather than later.

  • Firstly,聽it was becoming pretty clear that I would need to get it and as soon as possible considering聽the current situation in Victoria and NSW.
  • Secondly, I always visit my parents in Tasmania during the summer break and with the way things are looking, I am going to need to be vaccinated to guarantee I am able to fly at the end of the semester.
  • Finally, despite how safe we are in South Australia, the situation could change at any moment.

With these pressures mounting, I was feeling more and more stressed about getting the jab.聽

Another problem that I convinced myself of was that I didn't know if I would be available when booking聽in advance. I kept telling myself that I might have a meeting or an assignment due that day. The more I looked at doing it the more I put it off. It wasn't until a good talking to from my mum that got me聽into shape and I made a booking for my first Pfizer shot in.聽

Given the current situation in Australia, I wanted it done as soon as possible but I had left it too late! All of the earlier appointments were taken.聽The earliest booking I could get for my first dose was over a month away. It wasn't until I got a聽pro tip from a friend that Moderna was now readily available that I jumped online and looked for an appointment. Not only did I聽see appointments the next and the day after, but also that very day in about one hour. I quickly booked, grabbed my jacket and set off to get my jab. An hour later it was all done and I signed up for my second dose.聽

At first I聽was a bit apprehensive about getting Moderna. Nearly all of my friends were getting Comirnaty (Pfizer) and some Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) so I didn't know what to make of it. After looking up a couple of news reports on the vaccine and going to reliable government and scientific vaccine health advice websites, I聽learned Moderna聽was very similar to the Pfizer vaccine and much of a muchness. With this in mind all the hesitation left my mind and I went and got it done.
