Welcome to the new semester
Anyone else amazed how quick a semester can fly by? For some, this may be the start of your university journey and I would encourage you to make the most of it – your time at university will fly by quickly (mine certainty has).
Semester 2 is on its way and although it's starting outÌýrocky (hello lockdown), I’m still looking forward to my classes and events!
Leaving the safety and routine of high school was daunting for me but I was eager to make new friends and enjoy more freedom. My first semester of university was exciting and I’m glad I attended O’Week, orientation and pushed myself to attend all my lectures and classes. I wouldn’t have made the friends and memories I have todayÌýwithout putting myself out there. With restrictions in place, this is more difficult and I sympathise with the new students. I would recommend registering for the (27 July)– and keeping an eye out on online events (and hopefully in person events soon) where you can meet other students.
The start of one’s university journey can be quite daunting but I’ve found that after a week of classes and making just one friend, my nerves really settled. The start of a new semester is also intimidating for students undertaking their final year (cough, cough) – I have to think of graduate jobs, final efforts to boost my GPA, the uncertainty of next year and more! Starting new subjects is also stressful to begin with but just remember that we're all in the same boat. I remind myself that it’s just the beginning of the semester with twelve or so weeks of learning – things change and you never know what opportunity might come your way. I’m looking forward to campus events, learning new content, meeting new people and the memories of my final semester (although I think post-grad studies are in the foreseeable future).
The start of a new semester is an opportunity to start fresh, to get excited for new content, meet new classmates and attend fun events. Whether you’re just starting university or in your final year, the new semester is upon us and something to look forward to!Ìý
