A spring lamb in winter
My dad loves us, his newspaper and possibly most of all, his sheep. It all started about three years ago when dad decided to get a couple of sheep. He has always lived in rural areas and loved being around livestock. So, after much negotiation with mum he bought six poor worn down ewes. Unfortunately, they were cheap and from a previous owner who hadn鈥檛 taken very good care of them. So, dad brought them and has since fattened them up and given them a home. Naturally, six has turned into thirty. Somehow with dad continuously getting a few sheep here and there the original six are now a small herd.
Something that always creates a bit of excitement is when one of the ewes is pregnant. Just such an event is right around the corner with a lamb on the way any day now. This is only the third or fourth lamb that has ever been born with us, but the lambs are always cute and curious. They seem to inject a sense of new life around the place. So, as we look forward to adding to the squad here are a couple of my favourite current members.
A couple of my favourites in the squad are as follows;
- Lambsy: Lambsy was the first lamb to ever grace us with his presence and he was a cheeky little boy that would aggressively drink from the bottle whenever you hand fed him.
- Groot: Groot is a lovely brown and one of the more friendly sheep. She loves a hefty scratch on the back and any and all food.
- Moo: Moo is perhaps the only sheep that I have ever thought has a strong facial resemblance to a cow, hence the name. She has these weirdly pink lips and big eyes that make her look so cute!
- Dormarmoo: Dormarmoo may sound like a scary name but she is actually the nicest of all the herd. She is the oldest member and always hobbles behind the rest. She鈥檒l always gently eat from your hand and gobbles up some treat carrots and apple.
