Christmas traditions
How do you celebrate Christmas (if it all)? What kind of traditions do you have? Can you still practice these in adulthood? I love the Christmas season. I love the weather, the seasonal produce, and the atmosphere. Most of all, I love celebrating Christmas with family and friends. My family has some quirky Christmas traditions. To be honest, some of them are what some people may consider ‘childish’, but I don’t give a damn, and I’m still going to do them anyway. Here’s some of my favourite Christmas traditions that are guaranteed to give you a happy holiday.
The Advent Calendar
Advent Calendars are the best. Twenty-five days until Christmas, counting up from December 1st, with one chocolate a day, building the excitement. They require discipline, routine, and control. They also build the immense excitement for Christmas (and you have an excuse to eat chocolate every day). Each chocolate has a unique shape, and they even get bigger towards the last few days. I’ve had one every year for as long as I can remember. and they’re always a lot of fun.
Mum’s cooking and Dad’s vegetables
Every year on Christmas, Mum will cook a giant feast. We’ve now crafted a tradition of eating Parmesan bruschetta, pearl couscous salad with lots of Dad’s fresh vegetables, and usually a barbecue. Don’t forget a big ol’ trifle to finish off the day.
A Panettone
A sweat Italian bread filled with an abundance of dried fruit and nuts. They’re becoming more and more common in shops as the years go by, and we stock up big after Christmas when their price drops. We always sit around and have some coffee and panettone in the summer warmth. It is the perfect Christmas cake.
