Update to AS 2243 - Safety in Laboratories
Some changes have been made to the Australian Standards that may be relevant to you.
AS 2243.1:2021 Safety in Laboratories, Part 1: Planning and operational aspects
has been released, to supersede AS/NZS 2243.1:2005.
Main changes are:
- Addition of new clauses on electrical installations as AS 2243.1:1991 Safety in Laboratories, Part 7: Electrical aspects is now obsolete
- Addition of new clauses on nanotechnology and fieldwork
- Update of existing definitions, addition of new definitions, update of existing appendices, and addition of a new appendix containing a field trip plan.
AS 2243.2:2021 Safety in Laboratories, Part 2: Chemical aspects and storage
has been released superseding AS/NZS 2243.2:2006 and AS/NZS 2243.10:2004 Safety in Laboratories, Part 10: Storage of chemicals
Main changes are:
- Incorporate chemical storage content from AS/NZS 2243.10:2004
- Addition of new clauses on nanotechnology
- Addition of new appendices on nanomaterials and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

- AS/NZS 2243.9 Safety in Laboratories, Part 9: Recirculating fume cupboards
