Course reviews and the new course review reporting tool

Launched in 2024, the Course Review Reporting Tool (CRRT) is designed to support staff to document and report on course reviews via an easy-to-use online platform that automates critical stages of the reporting process.

Course reviews are an academic activity that support staff with evidencing and enhancing the quality of course curriculum and student learning. A review involves gathering and analysing information from multiple data sources and perspectives, including self-reflection, to inform future curriculum design and delivery and assure ongoing alignment of courses with programs and wider frameworks. In the climate of course development for the future Adelaide University, course review can help provide insight into what is currently working well within a course and what would be beneficial to carry into the new institution.

Course review reporting tool

Developed in 2023, the Course Review Reporting Tool (CRRT) is designed to support staff to document and report on course reviews via an easy-to-use online platform that automates critical stages of the reporting process. Early adopters report that the tool complements their existing school processes, with reported benefits including the ability to save notes and actions throughout the semester while a course is being taught and before finalising the review report. This feature allows users to make notes at the time, think of ideas or receive feedback. It enables users to document proposed actions and decisions when they have time and capacity, facilitating holistic reflection at the conclusion of teaching.

The automation of notifications at critical stages within the review process has also been a welcome feature of the tool. The helpful links direct to the tool included in the notification email mean that pesky 鈥淲here is that process up to?鈥 question can easily be addressed.

Documenting a course review within the tool also enables the review to be visible to key course stakeholders in the School. A PDF of the review report can be accessed and printed at the completion of a review. This is a great resource for course coordinators to record the actions they鈥檝e taken and how they would like to enhance their course in the future, enabling others who may pick up a course at a later date to see the rationale for decisions made or planned improvements.

The University course review website provides further information and supporting resources to assist with both undertaking course reviews and using the Course Review Reporting Tool. Please contact Education Quality if you have any questions or feedback regarding the tool.
