Refurbishment at the Barr Smith Library
Starting Monday 5 August 2024, the northern ends of Level 1 and Level 2 of the Barr Smith Library will be closed for refurbishment. This is phase 2 of the Library's refurbishment project, which includes installing new furniture, upgrading toilet facilities, and creating a brand new entrance on Level 1, opening onto the Barr Smith Lawns.

The Barr Smith Library has just become the first library in South Australia to introduce sleep pods, providing our students with an innovative way to recharge during their busy schedules. These state-of-the-art , are designed to offer a quick and effective way to rejuvenate!

Level 1 wedge upcoming closure
The Level 1 wedge, currently home to the computer suite, will be temporarily closed for building works from Monday 30 October.
Upward trend in Library usage
The University Library’s space usage has increased since 2022, with the data indicating a return to pre-pandemic levels of access! Within the first half of 2023, physical visits to the Library were at 299,458, which is a 76,000 increase compared to the previous year.
Welcome back!
We are very excited to announce that the Barr Smith Reading Room has now reopened for silent study. Please note, there are some changes to access and collections on Level 2 North.
Access changes to Level 1 North
Next week we will be starting the refurbishment of Level 1 North at the Barr Smith Library. This exciting revamp includes a new paint job, new carpet, and the installation of additional power points and study spaces.
Student volunteers helping preserve the University’s history
This week we say THANK YOU to our student volunteers! This year’s theme for National student volunteer week is ‘Passion. Opportunity. Change.’ This explores how students can create change worldwide by giving their time to a cause they believe in. Read the story of Elizabeth and Stefany Limanto, two sisters that arrived in Australia in February to study at the University and decided to become volunteers at the Library.
