Discovery event with Jade Ryles
Discover how World War II altered the relationship between Australian children and their families, with Jade Ryles听
Jade Ryles, Winner of the 2021 Hugh Martin Weir Prize, is in the final stages of her Masters in Philosophy in the School of Humanities. Her dissertation researches how World War II altered the relationship between Australian children and their families. The War disrupted the lives of all Australian families, with fathers being sent to war, mothers being sent to work, and many children left feeling unsure of their place and relationships within their family. This project aims to explore to what extent World War II disrupted the relationship between Australian children and their servicemen fathers. It will demonstrate that the war had a lasting impact not only the father-child relationship, but on a child鈥檚 place within their family.听
Jade鈥檚 research has used the Barr Smith Library, The National Library of Australia and the Australian War Memorial Library collections.
