Free, Independent and Confidential Counselling Service Free and Confidential Disability Service Advance Notice: Adelaide Graduate Centre Relocation In late September/early October, the Graduate Centre will be relocating to Level 10 of the Schulz Building.Ìý Our reception area will be located on the Eastern end of the Schulz building and will be accessible from the lifts opposite the Scott Theatre.Ìý There will be no access to the Graduate Centre from the Western end of the Building. We will update you and the signage in the Schulz building as further information becomes available and we look forward to assisting you from our new and improved space. Staff Movements This month we welcomed Alison White to the Graduate Centre.Ìý Alison is our new Team Leader, Graduate Research Scholarships and will support Darlene Truong, Manager Admissions and Scholarships by assuming responsibility for domestic and international scholarship operational matters in addition to managing the Health Sciences portfolio.Ìý There may some further adjustments to portfolios in the coming weeks and month and we thank you in advance for your understanding during this period of transition. 2020 Major Round: Postgraduate Research Degrees (applications open 1 September) Want a world-changing career in cutting-edge research? Industry Programs and Scholarships Ìý Adelaide-CSIRO Industry PhD Program and Scholarship (applications open) The ³ÉÈË´óƬ and CSIRO offer a specialised Industry PhD (iPhD) program and scholarship. Our 4-year iPhD programÌýincludes a minimum six-month industry placement leading to an enhanced opportunity for students to work in an industry-defined research areaÌýwithÌýsupport and supervision through a partnership between the ³ÉÈË´óƬ, CSIRO, and an Industry Partner. A competitive $40k p.a. scholarship is offered to the successful studentsÌýwith additional project research support funds of $10,000 per annum. You will also have the opportunity, along with your supervisory team, to engage inÌýtraining and professional development activitiesÌýthat will support your career. Ìý Ìý ³ÉÈË´óƬ Industry PhD (UAiPhD) program - Seeking New Supervisors The ³ÉÈË´óƬ Industry PhD (UAiPhD) is a 4 year program in which the research project and industry placement are developed in collaboration between the industry partner and the University supervisors. Projects have an industry focus while complying with the University’s usual requirements for a PhD program. In addition, the program includes the completion of a 6 month industry placement together with selected Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and industry development activities. Ìý Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) Program and Scholarship IEP scholarships are now available to support eligible domestic and international students who wish to undertake an industry placement. The IEP involves participation in an industry placement of 1-3 months (FTE) in duration, together with the completion of a number of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and other professional development activities. Completion of the IEP (including the compulsory CaRST activities, which provide credit) will be recognised on academic transcripts. Scholarships Ìý Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship (last call) The is a unique postgraduate scholarship program supporting outstanding individuals who have a drive and ideas to shape Australia’s future. Valued up to $120,000* over 2-3 years, the scholarship includes a nine month leadership development program, opportunities to gain global experience, and access to extensive networks. ÌýIf you’re commencing a PhD or Masters by Research or Course work at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ in 2020, apply before 4 September 2019. * PhD students may also receive the RTP scholarship in addition to the Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship, providing value of over $200,000 collectively. Ìý Archie McArthur Ant Systematics Supplementary Scholarship (applications open 1 September) Applications are invited for the Archie McArthur Ant Systematics scholarship. The supplementary scholarship is provided by the South Australian Museum to support and encourage PhD students at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ in the study of Ant Systematics, increase awareness of and enhance the Museum’s research and Ant Collections. The Archie McArthur Ant Systematics Scholarship is intended to supplement a major scholarship held by the recipient. Commencing in 2020, the scholarship provides $5,000 per annum stipend funds and $3,166 per annum in project costs. Funding will be awarded for up to 3 years with the possibility of a six month extension to stipend funds only. Please visit the for more information. Ìý Upgrade to PhD Scholarships (nominations open until filled) Nominations from Supervisors are encouraged.Ìý The ³ÉÈË´óƬ funds several Upgrade to PhD Scholarships each year to support students who enter higher degree by research through the Master of Philosophy (No Honours) pathway, who intend to upgrade to PhD (after the qualifying period of 18 months) and who have not previously been in receipt of scholarship funding for their program of research at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ.Ìý Further information can be found on the . Ìý Completion Scholarships (nominations open all year round) Nominations from Supervisors are encouraged.Ìý Completion Scholarships are supported by ³ÉÈË´óƬ research scholarship funding and are designed to encourage timely PhD completions. Completion Scholarships are available to Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents undertaking a PhD who have not previously been in receipt ofÌýany type of scholarship funding. In special circumstances and at the discretion of the Dean of Graduate Studies Completion Scholarships may also be available to International students who have not previously been in receipt of scholarship funding. For more information please visit the . Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program (open) receive full funding to pursue graduate study at Stanford University in California, USA. Applications for 2020 (September) entry are now open and will close 9 October 2019. Any full-time graduate degree program at Stanford is covered, including joint and dual degree options. You are eligible to apply if you earned (or will earn) your bachelor's degree with honours in 2014 or later. Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship to Harvard 2020-2021 Up to three Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships are awarded each year. Knox Fellowships include: tuition fees health insurance fees adequate stipend, which is sufficient to cover living expenses of a single fellow for a ten-month academic year. Recipients who are admitted to a Harvard degree program that requires multiple years of study are guaranteed two years of Knox funding, provided they remain in good academic standing.Ìý Requests for continued funding after two years are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please remember that applicants who have graduated (alumni) and are no longer affiliated with the ³ÉÈË´óƬ should contact Mr Paul Govoni, The Frank Knox Fellowship administrator about submitting their application directly to the Committee on General Scholarships. The Frank Knox Fellowship application is separate from the candidate’s application for admission to one of the Harvard University schools. Applicants for the Frank Knox Fellowship must also apply for and gain admission to one of the graduate or professional schools at Harvard University as full-time degree students. Applications for admission must be submitted to the appropriate school according to the deadlines established at that school. The awarding of a fellowship is contingent upon the applicant gaining admission to the Harvard school of choice. Admission to the University does not guarantee a fellowship award. For further information please visit the .ÌýÌý International Careers and Research Skills Training Program (iCaRST), Program 2, 2019 The role of iCaRST is to guide students through the first 6 months of their PhD or Masters programs. Our aim is to make sure that students are successful with their first major submission, their research proposals. We are now in the fifth week with the first few weeks being extremely busy with settlement issues and late arrivals. Students are now busy refining their thesis topics and preparing their Literature Reviews (Assignment Task 1). The seminar sessions are very lively with students focused on efficient reading and writing skills. Since last program our lecture modules have been open to domestic as well as international students and these are also working well.Ìý A two week program break is coming up soon.
