Wirltu Yarlu Aboriginal Education provides services and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students that complement the wide range of services offered by the University.
Student support
The Wirltu Yarlu Student Services Officers (SSO) Team coordinate student resources and events, working alongside Faculties and broader University services to enhance and support the student experience at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ. Every SSO has an allocated Faculty. They provide tailored support and apply a cultural and holistic lens throughout the student’s journey at the University.
After enrolment, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are assigned to a Wirltu Yarlu SSO.
Cultural Advisor
Kaurna Elder, Uncle Rod O’Brien is Wirltu Yarlu and the ³ÉÈË´óƬ’s Cultural Advisor. Uncle Rod has the fundamental role of providing culturally appropriate support to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff. His passion for revitalisation and teaching of Kaurna Language and his experience, knowledge and pride in Aboriginal heritage and culture give our students a sense of belonging and safety.

Wirltu Yarlu Academic Mentoring Program (WYAMP)
The free Wirltu Yarlu Academic Mentoring Program (WYAMP) connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with academic mentors matched to their field of study. WYAMP strives to enhance and develop students’ professional, personal, and academic strengths. Our mentors can assist with coursework, referencing, exam revision and broader study and research skills.

Study space
Wirltu Yarlu Aboriginal Education provides a culturally safe study space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at both our main North Terrace campus and in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building. Equipped with all your study needs, the space located in the Wirltu Yarlu offices is set up to provide a culturally safe and calm space to aid the learning process of our students.
Counselling support
Student Life Counselling Support provides free and confidential counselling to students around all issues affecting their studies and life. An Aboriginal counsellor is available to provide tailored support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Student kitchen
A fully catered student kitchen is available for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ. The facility is located on Level 1, Hartley Building. It’s open 24/7 (swipe card access required). Students can find a variety of free, healthy and nutritious meals and snacks to help them power through their studies. The kitchen is stocked on weekdays and provides a culturally safe space for our students to relax and enjoy a meal in the company of other students.
Cadetships
Wirltu Yarlu’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetships Program is a key feature linking engagement, research, and employment across the University and a wide range of host organisations. Cadets are placed within a working environment aligned with their study and career aspirations. This immersive experience engrosses students in their chosen fields and provides a stable income while studying. Our flexible program can be tailored to the student’s career or research goals.

Financial support
Wirltu Yarlu can provide information on financial support available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students—including scholarships, Commonwealth supported assistance, and remunerated cadetships. Study costs can vary depending on the chosen study program. All ³ÉÈË´óƬ undergraduate degrees are ABSTUDY-approved.

Accommodation
The Accommodation Service at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ understands that living in an environment that supports study priorities and lifestyle is important. Finding the right accommodation is closely tied to student academic success. There are a few accommodation options available, including:

Scholarships
There are many scholarships offered at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ. All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to apply. The University offers scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students.ÌýThese scholarships, as well as many others funded by industry and non-profit organisations, are available to potential and currently enrolled students.
Wirltu Yarlu has some specific scholarships and grants available. The Indigenous Employment Officer can provide information about scholarships, grants, and cadetships.

Disability support
The ³ÉÈË´óƬ’s Disability Support team provide confidential, personalised assistance to students with a disability or ongoing health condition. Disability Advisors work with students to identify relevant Reasonable Adjustments and provide information and advice about how to negotiate Reasonable Adjustments with academic staff.

Student Care offers independent information, advocacy, support and referral across a range of academic, administrative and welfare issues to all students enrolled at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ.

The University Health Practice is a fully accredited general practice located in the heart of The North Terrace Campus. They provide high-quality health care to patients, including city-based workers and The ³ÉÈË´óƬ students and staff.

Math Learning Centre
The Maths Learning Centre (MLC) exists to help all coursework students at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ to engage with mathematics, so that it can support them to reach their goals and to enjoy learning.

Writing Centre
The Writing Centre aims to help all students, no matter their skill level, in their development as writers through in person and online one-on-one consultations.

Study Abroad
Study Overseas supports students completing part of their degree overseas, with offerings including exchange programs, study tours, study abroad, practical experiences, and onshore programs to develop students' intercultural awareness.

Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)
PASS aims to help students to understand and apply key concepts in their courses, supporting them to achieve their best possible academic results.
Experienced students who have excelled in the most difficult courses, facilitate weekly 50-minute study sessions, helping you to discuss and practice important concepts and skills, check your understanding of course and assessment expectations, and build successful study habits in a friendly, casual environment. Sessions begin in Week two and run throughout the teaching weeks of each semester, with course revision sessions in the lead-up to the examination period.Ìý
