Water Refill Stations

Bring your own reusable bottle to campus and fill up at a water-bubbler or water refill station - it's convenient and will help prevent single-use plastic water bottles.

The problem with bottled water

Bottled water is environmentally damaging, expensive and unnecessary, given that Australian tap water is safe to drink.

  • Plastic bottles are among the 10 most common rubbish items picked up on Cleanup Australia Day.
  • Australia recycles only 36% of PET plastic water bottles, meaning around 373 million of them end up in landfill each year.
  • Around 7聽litres of water are needed to produce 1聽litre聽of bottled water.
  • Plastic water bottles can take up to 450 years to degrade.
  • Australians spend more than $450 million on bottled water every year. What a waste!

Campus refill stations

There are water-bubblers and refill stations in all student and staff kitchens, and in various locations within campus grounds.聽The聽North Terrace聽cycling facilities map聽includes the location of all external water-bubblers.

Any reusable bottle is a better alternative to a disposable PET bottle. But stainless steel drink bottles are considered to be the best, as they're made from durable, lightweight materials聽and can be recycled at the end of their life.
