What is Global IQ Connect?
Global IQ Connect is a 5-week extra-curricular program about Cultural Intelligence (CQ). The program is closely linked with the Adelaide Graduate AwardÌý²¹²Ô»å CaRST. It is open to all students regardless of degree or year.
The program is offered on-campus, and every other round also online (round 1 & round 3 in 2024).
You will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops and discussions about fundamental concepts regarding Cultural Intelligence (CQ). Workshops will be run on a weekly basis for all participants. You will have the possibility to indicate your preference for one of the three workshop groups. Part of every workshop will also be the opportunity to discuss the weekly assignment and learn about other cultures in your matched small groups (4-5 students).

What's in it for you?
- Employability and Career
Cultural Intelligence is a set of skills Australian employers are looking for in a candidate. Whether youÌýwill work in Australia or overseas, youÌýwill most likely be working in a culturally (very) diverse environment.Ìý - Connections; Enhanced negotiation and communicationÌýcapability
Relationships are crucial to the effectiveness of groups. Being able to build relationships, communicate well and negotiate will, for instance, significantly influence the effectiveness of group work during your studies or of international cooperation projects with other experts. - Electronic certificate of completion
Hours can be counted towards the Adelaide Graduate Award or towards CaRST.Ìý - Growth mindsetÌý(versus fixed mindset)
Your curiosity to learn and willingness to go out of your comfort zone. - Leadership potential
CQ helps when faced with the increased challenges of working with culturally diverse personalities and working styles in a team – both at home and globally. - Self-awareness
Ability to reflect on our own values and beliefs and realise how much our behaviour and thinking is influenced by them. When we look at others, we look at them through our ‘cultural glasses'('filters’). Our values and beliefs are our reference point. Self-awareness includes questioning our unconscious biases (blind spots), stereotypes and assumptions, and how they might impact our interactions with others in culturally diverse contexts. - Perspective-taking
Increased flexibility in and adaptability to culturally diverse environments.Ìý By trying to understand the behaviour and thinking of people who are different from us, we show respect and have an opportunity to widen our thinking. This does, however, not mean that we lose sight of who we are and what our values are. - Increased creativity and innovationÌý
Including and considering diverse perspectives and views regarding any given challenge will increase the chances to find creative and new solutions to the increasingly complex problems and challenges we face nowadays. - Adaptation to the inherent ambiguity and uncertainty of unfamiliar situations
You can adapt our behaviour and thinking slightly or significantly with the aim to be more effective. - Better judgments and decisions
By questioning our unconscious biases and reflecting on past experiences, we can increase our ability to make more inclusive decisions and often avoid misjudging the behaviour of others who are different from us.

“The program is excellent in every respect. I really appreciated the analytical way topics were examined, as it is evident that to truly engage in a culturally intelligent manner a high degree of creativity as opposed to rigidness is required.
More students, particularly local students, need to understand the value and wide applicability of the content. The program name is slightly misleading and can be confusing for students.
I hope the program will continue after the University merge."
Samuel Neate, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Relations (double degree), local student
