Science and the Media in the Time of COVID
On 25 September 2020, we were joined by Dr Susannah Eliott to discuss the role of the Australian Science Media Centre.
Susannah discussed the economic impact of COVID-19 on the media sector, including the rise in job losses and print media closures. She also discussed the role of the Australian Science Media Centre in providing accurate and accessible information to journalists to assist them with their reporting on scientific topics. This role has been made all the more important when considering the level of misinformation that has arisen during the pandemic. Susannah also spoke about the increasing levels of news consumption during the pandemic as well the concurrent rise of public trust in the media within the Australian context.
