PESTA convenor writes article on trust in science

PESTA convenor Professor Rachel Ankeny writes article on trust in science for the Griffith Review.

Rachel talks about the growing lack of trust and respect that exists on both sides of the expert and non-expert divide. She also discusses some of the barriers preventing deeper public engagement with scientific research.

In short, the required conditions to establish public trust in science can’t exist – not only because of the type of ‘thing’ science is, but also because of general pessimism on both sides, questions of appropriate motivation, competence and reliability, and an unwillingness to take risks and be vulnerable.Professor Rachel Ankeny
