Information for Teachers
The Teacher in Residence (TIR) program offers a range of engaging and educational experiences specifically tailored for students in Years 5-10. These experiences are designed to ignite curiosity, foster critical thinking, and inspire a passion for STEM subjects among students.
Explore STEM through engaging workshops and events, either on-campus at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ or right in your school. Our Teacher in Residence crafts curriculum-aligned experiences focusing on emerging technologies and the crucial role of STEM skills in preparing students for the future workforce. Students interact with university undergraduates, faculty academics, and industry professionals, connecting their learning to potential career paths.
Additionally, we offer our curriculum-linked workshops for delivery directly at your school. If you're interested in having our STEM Teacher in Residence visit your school or participating in a workshop during a campus visit, please refer to the list below and fill out the enquiry form. Workshop availability may vary.

Extraterrestrial Engineers
Embark on an intergalactic journey in our Off-World Robotics and Engineering Design workshop! In this hands-on experience, students dive into the fascinating realm of space exploration, combining robotics programming with engineering ingenuity.
Students receive a Sphero RVR robot and a challenge – navigate the Martian landscape and escape the crater! Equipped with craft materials and creative minds, participants design structures that enable their Sphero RVR to conquer the Martian crater. The focus is on problem-solving, collaboration, innovation, and the engineering design process.
Basic block programming becomes the key to success as students program their robots to execute the escape mission. This step introduces coding concepts and emphasises precision and computational thinking. Participants explore careers in STEM and the space industry, inspiring students to consider the vast possibilities in these exciting fields.

Flight Innovators
Join us for a high-flying adventure with our "Flight Innovators" workshop! Students delve into aerodynamics, constructing and testing paper planes. They then engage in the design thinking process using Power Up 4.0 kits to enhance their planes. Through trial and error, students grasp lift, drag, and control principles, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving. With a focus on renewable energy, students explore sustainable power methods, connecting designs to real-world applications and environmental awareness. The workshop culminates in a thrilling competition where students showcase their engineering, creativity, and collaboration by achieving the longest flight and distance. Educators receive bonus pre and post activity materials for seamless integration, reinforcing key concepts and encouraging ongoing exploration of flight and renewable energy.

Lunar Landers
Launch into an out-of-this-world mission with our "Lunar Lander" Challenge! Students step into the shoes of aerospace engineers as they tackle a real-world scenario from a local South Australian company. Each student becomes part of a company, with roles assigned to explore study and career pathways.
The challenge? Design a lander for an eggstronaut, using the engineering design process to create a 3D model that will launch alongside the eggstronaut. This hands-on experience immerses students in the intricacies of space engineering, from structural integrity to landing precision.
But that's not all—this challenge incorporates mathematical concepts through budgeting elements. Students must allocate resources wisely to stay within budget while ensuring the lander's functionality and safety.
The peak of the workshop is the launch, where students witness their creations in action. Whose eggstronaut will land safely? Join us to find out and inspire the next generation of space explorers!
