Seen a rogue drone? Report it to CASA!
Drones seem to be turning up in all sorts of places they shouldn't be.
As drones have become cheaper, access and use has increased dramatically. But that doesn’t mean that the people flying the estimated 50,000 drones in Australia are aware of their obligations.
There are (also known as standard operating conditions) which everyone must observe – like not flying above or near people!
Local councils are introducing additional restrictions to regulate the use of drones in areas like public reserves, parks and foreshore areas.
Reporting a rogue drone
So, if you see someone flying a drone where they shouldn’t, or in a way that is putting people or property at risk, you can make a report to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and ask them to investigate.
Take some details, take an image and then . CASA will need sufficient evidence of a potential breach of drone safety regulations to conduct an investigation, so try to get as much information as you can, including:
- Date, time and location of the incident
- Evidence such as images or videos
- Identity of the drone pilot
- Identification details of the drone
The University does not permit the unauthorised use of drones on any campus. If you witness unsafe drone operations, call Campus security and then let the know too.
Thinking of conducting activity involving drones?
If you are planning any activities involving drones, always contact URAF first for authorisation.
