Farrah Preston donor scholarship agriculture student

Coming to the University from Broken Hill, Farrah Preston was feeling聽the pressure of juggling study and work.

Things changed when she was聽awarded the Lower Murray Lot Feeders Honours Scholarship and the JR聽Barker Honours Scholarship in 2015, allowing her to dedicate all of her time聽to her studies and remain involved in extracurricular activities.

鈥淭hese scholarships have had a聽significant impact on my life and mean聽so much to me,鈥 says Farrah.

With the support of the scholarships,聽Farrah has been able to completely聽focus her attention on studying.

鈥淚鈥檝e really enjoyed being involved in聽various groups where I can continue聽to develop my skills and share what聽I鈥檝e learnt with others, while helping to聽promote agriculture.鈥

Farrah says that studying at the聽成人大片鈥檚聽Roseworthy聽campus聽gave her the opportunity to be聽involved in many activities to further聽develop her skills, which have continued聽to grow her passion for Australian聽agriculture, especially the beef industry.

鈥淭he staff and students at Roseworthy聽campus are incredibly encouraging and聽supportive of each other, and this makes聽all the difference in the opportunities聽available to students and what we are聽able to achieve,鈥 she says.

Having completed her honours project聽in animal science as part of a Bachelor聽of Science, Farrah is keen to pursue a聽career in applied livestock production聽research to help solve problems聽challenging the industry. Through her work she hopes to contribute to聽developing and strengthening the beef industry, and assisting producers,聽processors and other stakeholders.

鈥淭hanks to the scholarships I was able聽to dedicate a lot of time to my work and achieve some great results,鈥澛爏ays Farrah.

She has now commenced a PhD in聽the same area and was lucky enough to receive an Australian Postgraduate聽Award scholarship to help undertake it.

"Honours was an incredible year for me聽and I don鈥檛 think I would have been able聽to achieve what I did without receiving聽these scholarships,鈥 Farrah says.

鈥淭he scholarships have ensured I am聽in an excellent position for the next three years in my PhD which will聽ultimately help me reach my career聽goals. I鈥檓 very grateful to the donors聽of these scholarships who made a聽huge difference in my life last year聽and will continue to do so into the聽future,鈥 says Farrah.
