The future of health treatment, training and discovery
Thomas Lu, currently in his fifth year of a Bachelor of Medicine聽and Bachelor of Surgery, will be one of the students to receive聽medical training in state-of-the-art facilities at the new聽成人大片 Health and Medical Sciences聽Building.
Thomas is looking forward to putting into聽practice the world-class collaborative聽training he will receive at the new聽precinct to contribute in a meaningful聽way to medical science.
鈥淚 truly believe the new medical, nursing聽and dental building, built alongside聽the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, is聽a remarkable investment in South聽Australia鈥檚 healthcare system. It will be聽a combination of improved patient care,聽technological advances and state-of-the-art聽research that will be the cornerstone聽of future health services, not just for聽Adelaide but state-wide,鈥 Thomas says.
For well over a century the University has聽been educating generations of doctors,聽nurses, dentists and specialist medical聽graduates just like Thomas, who have聽gone on to care for us and our loved聽ones when we need it most.
Graduates聽and researchers from the University聽of Adelaide have made important聽medical breakthroughs, transforming聽life as we know it; such as Nobel聽Laureates Howard Florey who discovered聽penicillin and Robin Warren who聽discovered the cause of peptic ulcers;聽and 1920鈥檚 medical graduate Helen聽Mayo, a pioneer of women鈥檚 and聽children鈥檚 health.
The new 成人大片 Health聽and Medical Sciences Building will provide the research and teaching聽facilities that will inspire Adelaide鈥檚 next Nobel Laureates.聽
One of the most聽important milestones in the history of the聽, the聽building will boast state-of-the-art聽facilities which will ensure the聽University鈥檚 degree and research聽programs remain among the top聽ranked in the world.

鈥淪tudents of the future will be able to go聽from our building through to the South聽Australian Health and Medical Research聽Institute (SAHMRI) and on to the new聽hospital, weaving together education,聽research and clinical practice,鈥 says聽Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health聽Sciences, Professor Alastair Burt.
鈥淭his is about transforming the health聽care workforce of the future but it鈥檚 also transforming the experience of the聽students that come through that.鈥
We thank the very generous donors聽who have supported the University鈥檚 philanthropic campaign for infrastructure聽support. The building鈥檚 entry will boast a聽stunning donor wall and specially named聽rooms, in recognition of our donors.
