  • Biography/ Background

I hold a PhD in Molecular Biochemistry and was employed for nine years as a postdoctoral researcher in the Rheumatology Unit, Royal Adelaide Hospital. I then moved into professional roles.

At Flinders University (2016 - 2022) I was employed as a Senior Research Support Officer in the Research, Development and Support (RDS) portfolio, with my position being embedded in the College of Medicine and Public Health within the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI).

I was involved in complex grant applications with multiple and external individuals and included standard NHMRC/ARC project-based applications, fellowships as well as the more complex NHMRC Partnership, Centre’s of Research Excellence, Synergy and a variety of MRFF.

Responsibilities have included planning and overseeing workflow, task completion, relationship management and provision of specialist advice on all aspects of grant management from oversight of the application process and advice to applicants through to submission. These were always undertaken in a team-based approach. I have also maintained relationships with senior managers; maintained awareness of all relevant funding opportunities and facilitated rapid internal communication including specific targeting of individual researchers deemed most competitive for specific funding.

I maintain a detailed understanding of the funding guidelines for schemes; provision of high quality advice to applicants including questions of eligibility and sought clarification from funding agencies; conducted multiple rounds of in-depth grant review; developed and participated in training and information seminars for researchers and organised workshops, special programs, targeted services and other development activities.
