  • Biography/ Background

Oliver Fartach-Naini is an exceptionally versatile guitarist with a wide range of publications and international performances to his credit. Labelled a ‘musician of the very top order’ by The Australian and ‘an essential conduit for some of today’s best music’ by Fanfare magazine in the US, he relocated from Berlin to Adelaide in 2005 where he is senior lecturer at the 成人大片's Elder Conservatorium of Music.

With his passionate programs ranging from classical and contemporary to tango and oriental music Oliver Fartach-Naini looks back on a long series of exciting projects with which he has delighted audiences the world over. Tours, master classes, festivals, radio and TV appearances across Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA have brought him international acclaim. Oliver Fartach-Naini has performed extensively as a soloist, with orchestral accompaniment, in duo with Korean guitarist Lee Song-Ou, Australian clarinettist Peter Handsworth, German flautist Thea Nielsen and as a member of the quintet Tango Concertante. The Persian Art Music CD "Didar - Live in Berlin" featuring Majid Derakhshani (Composition, Tar, Voice), Thea Nielsen (Flute) and Amir Abbas Zare (Daf) and Oliver Fartach-Naini (guitar) is one of his many innovative ventures. To date he has released 11 CDs including 7 different chamber music formations and a long list of world premiere recordings for the German Labels Deutsche Grammophon, Kreuzberg Records, Acoustic Music Records as well as Credia International (Universal) and Ethnoclassics. His most recent accolade was published in US magazine CLASSICAL GUITAR, which included his solo album SUITE LATINA in its list of ‘Top Ten Classical Guitar Albums of 2019’.

The German publisher Edition Margaux created the Collection Oliver Fartach-Naini, which is a selection of the numerous pieces composers such as Carlo Domeniconi (Italy), Richard Charlton (Australia), Ludger Vollmer (Germany), Geonyong Lee (South Korea), Jaime Zenamon (Brazil) and Máximo Diego Pujol (Argentina) have written for him and his ensembles.

Oliver's interest in teaching is also documented in his thesis on early childhood instrumental pedagogy, which was part of his first University degree in Berlin. His analytical approach to technical issues, musicality and motivational skills as well as his know-how on the general music business are considered some of his pedagogical strengths. His standing as an educator has seen him selected as the repertoire consultant for the 2012 AMEB classical guitar syllabus, which entailed the publication of 7 graded and edited repertoire books with performance notes and the compilation of a 1000 work repertoire list.

As a student of American guitarist and composer Laurie Randolph Oliver Fartach-Naini holds degrees from the University of the Arts Berlin (Instrumental Pedagogy), the Academy of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig (Music Performance) and he was awarded his PhD from the 成人大片.

Oliver is a featured artist of the New York String Manufacturer La Bella.
