She currently has over 20 years experience in veterinary medicine and 18 years in the area of Equine Internal Medicine with a special area of interest in sport medicine (endurance horses, show jumping, dressage and thoroughbred racing), arabian show horses, special interest in Emergency and critical care of foals and adult horses and in Equine infectious diseases. Lidwien likes exploring the world with different cultures, she is interested in people while trying to stay true to herself. Lidwien Verdegaal joined the School of Animal and Veterinary Science as a Senior lecturer April 2011 to fill the exciting job to combine hospital work, teaching vet students and research. Lidwien developed an interest in metabolic disorders and exertional heat-related illnesses in horses, currently in endurance horse and is currently establishing her research to gain a deeper understanding of exercising horses and more particular their thermoregulation. She is a strong believer of integrating research and clinical practice as the cornerstone of evidence based good veterinary practice (GVP).
