  • Biography/ Background

    Francois has a law degree and MBA (Strategy and Technology Management). Early in his career his area of focus was on commercial law and intellectual property. In 2008 he joined the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (South Africa). During his employment he was responsible for commercial contract negotiations with a focus on international contract R&D, commercial and licensing transactions. In 2014 he assumed the responsibility as Senior Commercialisation Manager: Technology Transfer and negotiated various IP licensing and assignment agreements and also assisted with the successful start-up of a number companies born out of technology developed at the CSIR.

    Francois is passionate about working in the research and development environment and making a difference through supporting researchers to resolve problems that benefit industry and the community in:

    **    raising the level of commercialisation awareness and skills within the research community
    **    advising on matters such technology transfer, IP management and innovation,
    **    meeting other like-minded people!

    Francois is an innovative thinker, bringing creativity to bear on challenging and often times ambiguous problems, finding clarity in complexity.

    Francois will primarily focus on educating researchers in commercialisation, managing strategic investor relationships, negotiating licensing deals, and the establishment of spin out companies, primarily in the Faculty of ECMS, School of Physical Sciences, IMER and IPAS.
