• Biography/ Background

  My main research interests are in public policy and political economy, where I focus on explaining large-scale policy success or political-economy outcomes across East and Southeast Asia. I am one of a select few female scholars who model and test how key players in the region, such as government and citizens, work strategically with one another to achieve large-scale policy success or political outcomes such as growth and development

  I combine deep country knowledge of East and Southeast Asian countries with game-theory, experiments, statistics and mixed case-studies to forecast and test predictions, in a field where work has traditionally been single country-studies. This has led to visiting and distinguished positions across a number of universities, including Visiting Professor, Yonsei University (Korea), Pukyong National University (South Korea) Distinguished Speaker, , University of Indiana (Indiana, US), , Keeler IntraUniversity Professor, University of Kansas (Kansas, US), and American Young Scholars and Experts (Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

   

  Outside of academia, I have worked with the World Bank as a Lead-consultant to develop a general theoretical framework for social protection in Asia and the Pacific; and also led capacity-building workshops with the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.   I am also privileged to have given keynote addresses and plenary talks across academic and non-academic settings, including the United Nations PRME, the ADC Forum, Women in Economics Network, the UN-Department of Economic and Social Affairs and Korea Institute of Public Administration, Global Agenda Center (GAC) and Global Peace and Innovation Forum (GPIF) (South Korea), and the Modern World Speaker Series, Economic Society of Australia-Canberra.

  My texts, Annual Editions: Comparative Politics (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013; Dubuque: McGraw-Hill Publishers) are on the list of required or recommended texts on Advanced Placement Curriculum (AP-Comparative Politics) for preparation to the College Entrance Examination, as determined by the US College Board. The US College Board is a consortium of over 6000 schools, colleges, and universities, that develop and administer standardized tests and curricula to improve college-readiness for university- and university-bound students; students who pass the AP-tests get to enroll directly for upper-level coursework at universities. Texts used or recommended by the College Board, then, must pass a multitude of assessments on intellectual rigor and comprehensiveness of university-level learning, while accessible to students at pre-university levels.
