Biography/ Background
Dr Emmanuel Gnanamanickam is a mid-career health and human services researcher, who is coming full circle back to the University of Adelaide to the role of Senior Research Fellow at the newly established Adelaide EpiCentre (Centre for Clinical Epidemiology). He started his Australian career with the Australian Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH) at the University where he also completed his PhD examining the cost-effectiveness of dental insurance. Since then he has completed post-doctoral positions at Flinders University evaluating models of residential aged care for people living with Dementia and at UniSA based at SAHMRI examining the health, social and economic consequences of child abuse and neglect. For the last 6 years he has also simultaneously worked within the health service, initially at SALHN with the department of Cardiology and more recently with the Infectious Diseases unit at CALHN as an Clinical Epidemiologist.
With a background in Social Work and Public Health he brings to the Adelaide EpiCentre expertise in epidemiology, health economics, research governance and ethics, data linkage (in-house, state, cross jurisdiction and commonwealth), and expertise working with an extensive range of administrative and electronic health record data and data systems within SA Health. Having worked across all three universities in South Australia and SA Health, he has established collaborations across the health and social research sector in South Australia and beyond and looks forward to expanding collaborations at the EpiCentre.
He welcomes opportunities to work with clinical (medical, nursing as well as allied health) and academic researchers, especially leveraging the use of data from within the SA Health system to answer clinically relevant questions.
