Worldwide, demand is soaring for graduates with skills and understanding in these areas, together with a firm grasp of contemporary building, project management and sustainability practices. Our new Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) will prepare you to take a leading role.

What will you do?

Taught over four years full-time within a faculty ranked 50 in the world for computer science and engineering*, the degree leverages the University’s strong industry links and world-class research. Co-developed with industry, it features an emphasis on real-world experience, with an internship providing 456 hours of work-based training and industry internship opportunities embedded into the program during 3rd and 4th year.

In addition to gaining a broad understanding of the foundations of the construction industry and associated project management—you’ll develop skills in evaluating, applying and using:

  • new and emerging technology, including digital building-information modelling tools and automation technologies (Industry 4.0)
  • civil engineering principles and technology, in real-world construction contexts
  • construction project and people management, including legal requirements
  • systems thinking, building science and economics principles
  • sustainability principles to design more eco-friendly construction processes
  • highly effective interpersonal communication and critical, independent thinking.

This degree is hosted by the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and will prepare you well for a future career in which you’ll frequently work alongside professionals in these areas.

In fourth year, you’ll also undertake major construction design and research projects. In these, and your internship, you’ll be mentored by our world-class, research-active staff and/or industry experts.

You’ll be ideally placed to work on high-technology infrastructure and construction projects anywhere in the world. From managing the construction of transformational infrastructure projects, including bridges, tunnels and highways, to constructing the next generation of zero-energy buildings using the latest digital and Industry 4.0 technologies. You may also choose to continue your study with our Master of Construction Management.

Selection Criteria
Recent Secondary Education Applicants with recent secondary education are those whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the last two years, however if you completed your secondary education more than two years ago, you may still be able to be considered on the basis of your secondary schooling. You must not have completed more than 2 years full time equivalent university study (48 units). You compete for a place with your Selection Rank (ATAR plus any applicable adjustment factors). Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Pathway. See Wirltu Yarlu for further information.
Higher Education Study You must have completed at least six months full time equivalent higher education study (the number of courses and units will vary depending on your prior institution however at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ, this equates to 4 courses / 12 units). A Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for each separate program you have undertaken (apart from some double degree programs where the GPA is combined). You compete on the basis of your best GPA. Vocational Education and Training (VET) study You must have completed an AQF Certificate IV or above from a Registered Training Organisation. Your application will be ranked according to the level of the award. Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Pathway. Work and life experience To be eligible to sit the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) as as pathway for entry, you must be 18 years or over before 1 February 2025. If you have studied at higher education level in the last two years (for 2025 entry this means you were enrolled in either 2024 or 2023), you must not have accumulated more than a TOTAL of 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education study (ie. including any study prior to 2023). If you meet this criteria, you will be ranked according to your result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Your STAT result is not weighted between verbal and quantitative components. Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Pathway. See for further information.

Students who as part of their studies take part in The Academy by Deloitte experience will have the benefit of undertaking a paid internship with Deloitte. This internship is designed to shape their business readiness through significant real-world client exposure, access to multiple networking opportunities and relevant professional training.


A graduate of Construction Management is equipped with skills in socially and environmentally sustainable construction technologies, project management, and skills in civil construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and engineering construction management.

Utilising a broad skill set that blends construction management and technology, you might find yourself:

  • overseeing and managing large-scale construction and infrastructure projects
  • consulting with engineers, architects and technical trades workers
  • coordinating labour, equipment and plant resources, as well as overseeing and managing contracts for work
  • interpreting technical drawings and specifications for new infrastructure, as well as designing and managing sustainable building practices
Developed and delivered in collaboration with industry, our curriculum has a strong emphasis on real-world experience, integrating learning with hands-on experience—enabling you to gain employment in industry after your second year and continue studying while you work—allowing for rapid transition to industry after graduation.
