Where could it take you?

Additional Entry Requirements | Teaching Capabilities Statement (TCS): In accordance with national teacher education program standards, applicants must fulfil non-academic entry requirements. Applicants are required to submit a 400-600 word Teaching Capabilities Statement (TCS) which speaks to motivation to become a teacher. The statement must address three themes:
The statement must be in the applicant?s own words and written by the applicant without the use of artificial intelligence. Only one statement is permitted, and changes or edits cannot be made after submission. The submission is final, and the University will not provide feedback or a reassessment of a statement. The submitted statement may be scrutinised by artificial intelligence (AI) detection software and if the use of AI is detected, the University may not progress with the application. Working with Children Check (WWCC): All people who work with children and young people will require a Working with Children Check (WWCC). A successful WWCC is required prior to undertaking any professional experience placement, including all in-school activities which involve contact with minors (people under 18 years of age). These placements and in-school activities are compulsory components of teaching degrees at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have a valid WWCC prior to undertaking any professional experience placement or in-school activities. Find out more at the Department of Human Services Criminal History Check and Responding to Abuse and Neglect training: Professional Experience Placements form a compulsory part of the program. Students will be required to undertake a Child-related Employment screening through Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI). If a student fails to obtain clearance for any reason, the University cannot accept responsibility for obtaining a professional experience placement or any professional experience activity that a student may require to complete the course of study. In addition, students who are completing any in-school activities or professional experience placements must undertake mandatory training in Responding to Abuse and Neglect prior to the commencement of the activity/placement. Students must provide documented evidence that shows that they have completed all of the required training. All students must pass both components of the Language and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE). |
Selection Criteria
Recent Secondary Education | Applicants with recent secondary education are those whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the last two years, however if you completed your secondary education more than two years ago, you may still be able to be considered on the basis of your secondary schooling. You must not have completed more than 2 years full time equivalent university study (48 units). You compete for a place with your Selection Rank (ATAR plus any applicable adjustment factors). Higher Education Study | You must have completed at least six months full time equivalent higher education study (the number of courses and units will vary depending on your prior institution however at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ, this equates to 4 courses / 12 units). A Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for each separate program you have undertaken (apart from some double degree programs where the GPA is combined). You compete on the basis of your best GPA. Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Pathway. See for further information. |
Work and life experience | To be eligible to sit the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) as as pathway for entry, you must be 18 years or over before 1 February 2025. If you have studied at higher education level in the last two years (for 2025 entry this means you were enrolled in either 2024 or 2023), you must not have accumulated more than a TOTAL of 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education study (ie. including any study prior to 2023). If you meet this criteria, you will be ranked according to your result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Your STAT result is not weighted between verbal and quantitative components. Degree Structure
Our four year double degrees allow you to specialise in two subject areas taught in the secondary years of high school. Your first three years of study are focused on building your expertise in these two teaching areas.
Throughout the degree you will also undertake education courses and professional experience placements. The final year of study prepares you to be a teaching professional with the focus on curriculum, methodology, pedagogy and professional experience placements in schools.
The Bachelor of Teaching is for students who have not already commenced university study. If you have already commenced a degree, you should consider completing that degree and then apply for the Master of Teaching (Secondary). Students completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Teaching are eligible to gain credit towards the Master of Teaching (Secondary).
Please note:
- Mid-year entry will only be available to domestic students. Due to the program structure and professional experience placements, students commencing mid-year study will complete their program in 4.5 years instead of 4 years.
- International students who are currently studying at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ may apply to this program mid-year via . Approval is based on your past and current enrolments, and is assessed by the Faculty of Arts on a case-by-case basis.
