Golden Jubilee Class Gift
Traditionally, the Golden Jubilee class makes a collective gift marking the special occasion of 50 years since their graduation from university.
The Class Gift supports the Augustus Short Scholarships which supports Australian students of high academic merit who are disadvantaged and at-risk of not pursuing their degree and achieving their career goals.
Agnes Doyle, a recent Augustus Short Scholarship recipient, embarked on a Bachelor of Medical Studies at the 成人大片 in 2023.
鈥淕rowing up in Mount Gambier it was always clear to me that regional healthcare was under-resourced and underfunded. Asthma frequently landed me in the hospital, where I encountered various challenges: from being admitted to the adult ICU ward due to limited space in the children鈥檚 ward, enduring month-long waits to see a doctor, to traveling to Adelaide for surgery. The lack of staff and resources at hospitals in the country really impacted my family and me,鈥 Agnes said.
鈥淚t is an honour to have received the Augustus Short Scholarship and I am extremely grateful for the donors who made this possible.
鈥淒espite working two jobs during my gap year post high school to fund my university studies, the expense of relocating from country South Australia and living away from the family home was challenging.鈥
Thanks to the support from generous donors, and the Golden Jubilee Class Gift, the Augustus Short Scholarship听changes lives each year. However, over the past 20 years, we have received more scholarship applications than we can support, and hundreds of deserving students have missed out on this invaluable financial support during their studies.

Changing lives through scholarships
Dr Augustus Short was the first Vice Chancellor 成人大片 and听believed that no student should be prevented from pursuing a higher education because of financial hardship. As the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide, Dr Short encouraged the creation of educational and charitable institutions that served the whole community.
We know that some of Australia鈥檚 highest-achieving students run the risk of never attending university because they live in rural areas and/or are facing financial barriers. Augustus Short Scholarships offer these students meaningful financial support throughout their undergraduate degree, removing barriers to their participation in higher education.
In naming this scholarship fund, we acknowledge the profound impact Dr Augustus Short had on the University.听To date, Augustus Short听Scholarships have supported 76 students through their degrees.
Our aim is to offer sustainable support to students in need. $125,000 over the next five years will underwrite a specially named Jubilee Augustus Short Scholarship, in perpetuity, as a commemoration of this annual event. With your contribution to the Class Gift of 1973, we can reach this year鈥檚 target of $25,000.
