Friends of the Library Network – Danielle Clode Author Event

Jeanne Barret disguised herself as a man and sailed on the 1766 Bougainville voyage of discovery as the naturalist's assistant. Until now her story has been shrouded in mystery. Clode's mission takes her from France and Mauritius to the Pacific Islands and New Guinea to reveal the previously untold story of Jeanne Barret’s life in In Search of the Woman Who Sailed the World - as well as the achievements and challenges of her famous voyage.

This is not the first time Clode has brought to light the unsung contribution of women to science and discovery. Her 2018 biography of Australian naturalist Edith Coleman, The Wasp and the Orchid, was shortlisted for the 2019 National Biography Award. She was awarded the Victorian Premier's Non Fiction Literary Award in 2007 for Voyages to the South Seas: In Search of Terres Australes.

Danielle Clode studied politics and psychology at ³ÉÈË´óƬ before completing her PhD in Zoology as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.

Proceeds support the University Library. Bookings are essential by 27 April. Numbers are limited to observe COVID-19 restrictions
