AI to Examine Links Between Traumatic Brain Injury and Parkinson Disease
Congratulations to Professor Mark Jenkinson who has been named a Chief Investigator on the $1.9 million grant from the Federal Government鈥檚 Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) for research into the links between Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and the development of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Working alongside neuroscientists, psychologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons from across the 成人大片, the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and other institutions, a team from AIML are using advanced machine learning techniques to develop a risk prediction algorithm to more accurately assess the long-term prognosis of individuals after TBI.
"It is a great opportunity for AIML and SAHMRI to advance the study of brain mechanisms underlying injury and improve the ways of assessing the risk of ensuing dementia. This work is an exciting example of interdisciplinary collaboration and will help foster neuroimaging research within the state, which is something I am very keen to promote." said Professor Mark Jenkinson.
This research will help uncover the causes of persistent brain impairments like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, allowing for earlier, more targeted therapeutic interventions.
