The ArtSnob application has been developed to provide an AI interpretation to artwork (and an alternative explanation that would usually be created by the artist or curator).
ArtSnob interprets the visual form of the work in light of an extensive library of artworks and their corresponding narratives. Each such narrative simultaneously provides insight into the mind of AI, and reflects nothing but the interpretation of the reader. It illustrates the power, and banality, of narrative prose in the interpretation of art.
ArtSnob uses machine learning algorithms to analyse what is in the image, and feeds this into an machine learning natural language generator pre-trained on artist statements from the Tate Collection and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
