Successes and Failures of Citizen Science: Self-Critique of Crowd the Tap, Public Science for Safe Drinking Water

Associate Professor Caren Cooper (Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, North Carolina State University)

Dr Caren Cooper, Associate Professor of public science at North Carolina State University, will explore key discoveries and impacts of citizen science, as well as its failures of inclusion. Through a self-critique of one of her own projects, she'll explore the structure of the scientific enterprise, who is served, who is underserved, and how the participatory sciences hold promise for helping humanity meet grand challenges.

 is a researcher in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University. She is an advocate for the practices of Citizen Science, Open Science, and Science Communication, pursuing scholarly inquiry into these areas, and bringing them all together to achieve Public Science.
