Health experts recognised for research impact

The 成人大片鈥檚 Professor Helen Marshall and Dr Trudy Lin have been recognised as South Australia鈥檚 2022 Australian of the Year and Young Australian of the Year respectively.

Professor Marshall from the 成人大片鈥檚 Robinson Research Institute and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, is an international leader in vaccinology, public health and infectious disease.

She has been recognised for her work as lead investigator of the "B Part of It" meningococcal survey which examines the effectiveness of meningococcal B vaccines in teenagers and young adults.

As Deputy Director of the Robinson Research Institute and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Practitioner Fellow, Professor Marshall contributes extensively to national and international immunisation policy, and has been recognised by many awards including NHMRC 鈥10 of the Best鈥.

She is a vocal public advocate for immunisation and is one of Australia's most celebrated and recognised vaccine experts.

The SA Young Australian of the Year recognises people between the ages of 16 and 30 from all walks of life who have achieved remarkable things.

Dr Trudy Lin is a special needs dentistry consultant working in the Adelaide Dental School, part of the University鈥檚 Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

As the youngest of only 20聽practising specialists in Australia鈥檚 special needs dentistry sector, Dr Lin provides oral healthcare to people with disability, psychiatric illness, and complex medical issues such as cancer. She also treats people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence.

Dr Lin鈥檚 research thesis focussed on implementing a triaging tool to improve oral healthcare access for people with disability. This work has received multiple accolades.

Professor Marshall and Dr Lin received their awards during聽a ceremony held at Adelaide Convention Centre.
