Taking on type 2: Research Tuesdays
Deadly vascular problems are common for people with type 2 diabetes. In this month’s Research Tuesday’s lecture, the ³ÉÈË´óƬ’s Khalia Primer will talk about her research into finding out the underlying reasons why so many T2D sufferers experience complications.
Although COVID-19 dominates global headlines, here in Australia type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains a far more prevalent threat. Affecting nearly 1 million of us, it’s directly associated with around 9,500 deaths per annum.
We know the vast majority of these lives are lost due to disproportionately high rates of related vascular complications, such as heart attacks, peripheral artery disease and chronic-wound infections. But how and why T2D triggers these complications so frequently has remained a mystery.
Progress, however, is being made. Ongoing research at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ is shining new light on this critical issue and raising hopes for innovative therapy development. This engaging presentation will bring you right up to speed.
