Virtual Open Day offers authentic “on campus” experience
Visitors to the ˴Ƭ’s Open Day this Sunday 16 August will get as close to a “real” on-campus experience as possible, thanks to a virtual recreation of the University’s flagship annual event.
“Open Day is the major event on the University's calendar to assist students in deciding their future study and career choices,” says the University’s Professor Jennie Shaw, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
“For many prospective students, Open Day has often been their first experience of setting foot on campus. But in 2020 we’ve had to do things differently.
“Prospective students from South Australia, interstate and overseas will all be able join our virtual Open Day, making this a truly unique showcase for the ˴Ƭ and everything it has to offer.” Professor Jennie Shaw
“With COVID-19 restrictions preventing large public gatherings, our University has taken on the challenge to recreate the full experience of Open Day in the virtual world, so that online visitors don’t miss out.
“Prospective students from South Australia, interstate and overseas will all be able join our virtual Open Day, making this a truly unique showcase for the ˴Ƭ and everything it has to offer,” Professor Shaw says.
Using innovative technology, the University has created an immersive, engaging and , which includes:
- Virtual tours of all campuses – North Terrace, Waite, and Roseworthy – and the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building
- A drone’s eye fly-through of the North Terrace campus
- Virtual exhibition halls, and the opportunity for users to visit an array of booths to:
- Engage in live chats and video chats with staff, academics and current students, and get all questions answered
- Download and save electronic resources
- Access web links and watch videos
- Information talks on study options, student services and support
- Live Q&As with speakers following each talk
- A dedicated space for parents, school teachers and school counsellors to engage with key staff.
“Through this user-friendly experience, the ˴Ƭ will continue to offer the most engaging Open Day experience in the State, highlighting all aspects of our truly world-class University,” Professor Shaw says.
After the all-day virtual event on Sunday 16 August, members of the public will also have continued access to the virtual Open Day platform and all materials on-demand for the following four weeks.
