My name is Gulpilil

National Reconciliation Week Sea of Hands

On the final day of National Reconciliation Week, the ³ÉÈË´óƬ invites you to share in the story of one of Australia’s most renowned actors, Yolngu man David Gulpilil.

Growing up in the bushland of Australia’s top end, his performance in the 1971 survival film ‘Walkabout’ brought him to international attention and he was soon mingling with Hollywood stars and music industry legends. But most of all, Gulpilil says he is proud of introducing the world to his ancient and enduring Indigenous culture.

In early 2017, Gulpilil was diagnosed with lung cancer and given only 6 months to live. Defying the odds, he worked with Director Molly Reynolds to capture and generously share his extraordinary life and culture.

Join us at the Palace Nova East End Cinema as we celebrate and seek to better understand Australia’s rich Indigenous history. As part of the private screening for staff, students and alumni, the University’s Kaurna Cultural Advisor, Uncle Rod O’Brien will ensure we are properly welcomed to Kaurna Yarta (land). Guests will receive a drink and popcorn upon arrival.
