Diet Debate: How can we eat our way to a healthier life?

Monday, 19 June 2017

Is it really possible to eat your way to a healthier lifestyle, and what diets are best for you?

These are two of the key issues to be addressed in a free public event at the 成人大片 this week (Wednesday 21 June):

With so many diets available, this public debate will explore two of the most popular approaches: a low-carbohydrate lifestyle, and a whole-food plant-based lifestyle.

Each diet will be compared and contrasted, with members of the public able to ask questions of experts about demonstrated health benefits and the research underpinning each perspective.

The debaters:

Pennie Taylor is a senior research dietitian at CSIRO Health and Biosecurity and co-author of the CSIRO Low Carb Diet Plan. A PhD student at the 成人大片, Pennie has managed and supported clinical research trials exploring the influence of dietary patterns and composition on health outcomes. Pennie is also a private practitioner of a multidisciplinary weight loss clinic.

On the opposing side is husband and wife team Dr Alphonse and Dr Heleen Roex, the first Australians to be certified in plant-based nutrition from the Food for Life program. They became fascinated by the abundance of studies that indicate a plant-based diet is preventative for many chronic diseases, and can also play a curative role in stopping and reversing disease.

The facilitator for the debate is Professor Maria Makrides, Theme Leader for the Healthy Mothers, Babies and Children theme, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), and Professor of Human Nutrition, 成人大片.
