Queen's Birthday honours to leaders in their fields

One of the University's most highly regarded music teachers, an administrator in health and a leader in grain technology have been recognised in the 2016 Queen's Birthday honours.
Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch has been awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for significant service to the performing arts, particularly to music education and performance, and through executive roles with professional associations.
Head of Classical Performance and Head of Woodwind at the University's Elder Conservatorium of Music, flautist Associate Professor Koch is one of the University's most highly regarded educators. She is the winner of multiple awards for teaching excellence, both within the University and at a national level, and was previously awarded an OAM in the Queen's Birthday honours 2006.
Associate Professor Kaye Challinger has been awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for significant service to medical administration, to the advancement of nurse education, and to quality health care delivery.
A Clinical Associate Professor in the University's School of Public Health, Associate Professor Challinger was co-founder of the Joanna Briggs Centre for Evidence Based Practice (now the Joanna Briggs Institute), and is a former Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Adelaide Hospital (1999-2005) and former Director of Nursing and Patient Services.
Dr Stephen Jefferies has been awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for significant service to primary industry, particularly to grain technology and breeding, through executive, research and education roles.
An Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the University's School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, Dr Jefferies is Chief Executive Officer of Australian Grain Technologies, based at the Waite campus. Dr Jefferies has played a leadership role in the commercial development of grain technology for the benefit of Australian primary industries, and has held academic positions at the University in wheat and barley breeding.
