Uni to offer 120 scholarships
Thursday, 9 December 2004
The 成人大片 will next year offer 120 Australian Fee Based Enrolment (AFBE) scholarships worth $2,000 each for full time study.
Announcing the decision today, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor James McWha, said the new scholarships, which complement the University's comprehensive range of existing scholarships, were designed to improve access to higher education for the community.
"There has been a significant increase in applications for the 成人大片," Professor McWha said. "Demand substantially outstrips the number of Commonwealth-supported places available.
"As a consequence, we are seeing more people interested in fee-based places. The new AFBE scholarships will help these people and support greater participation in higher education.
"A fee-based place allows a student to choose the degree that they really want to study, without having to face the pressure of the changing cut-off scores," Professor McWha said.
"It allows students to plan for their future with a concrete goal and also provides them with the opportunity to fulfill their career aspirations if they just miss out on a highly competitive Commonwealth-supported place," Professor McWha said.
AFBE places at the 成人大片 are open to anyone who is an Australian citizen, or a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen, the same as required for Commonwealth-supported places. All programs at the University are available through the AFBE scheme in 2005.
Students wanting more information are urged to attend the Information Evening on Wednesday 22 December, 2004 from 4pm to 7pm, Union Hall, 成人大片.
