It's all science to this computing genius

Internationally renowned mathematician will present a seminar at the 成人大片 next month on , acknowledged as one of the world's most important software packages in numerical analysis.

Moler invented MATLAB in 1981 to give his students at the easy access to and , Fortran libraries for numerical computing.

In 1984 Moler co-founded The MathWorks company to commercialise this program. It is now the world's leading developer of technical computing and Model-Based Design software for engineers and scientists in industry, government, and education, and employs more than 1,400 people.

Moler will discuss the evolution of MATLAB over the last 25 years, from a simple matrix calculator to a powerful technical computing environment.

The seminar, on Wednesday, 13 September, is part of a series of industry-related talks being developed for the new (ACVT) at the 成人大片.

An initiative of the University's , the Centre promotes innovative, computer-based technologies, which produce and analyse digital media.

Director Anton van den Hengel said the Centre's goal is to link creative activity in the digital arts with cutting-edge enabling technologies in computer science.

The Australian Centre for Visual Technologies operates on three platforms - research, communication and innovation.

"On the research side we have just signed a major research contract with one of the primary producers of video technology internationally. We are also negotiating with a number of local companies on projects involving the analysis of 3D data and the technologies involved in large scale automated video surveillance," Dr van den Hengel said.
