University to host 300 media delegates

Monday, 19 June 2006

More than 300 communication experts from around the world will converge on the 成人大片 next month to discuss global trends in the media.

The 2006 conference, which runs from July 5-7, will host research scholars, academics, practitioners, policy makers and postgraduate students involved in media technology and communication practices.

Hosted by the 成人大片's , the conference theme this year is Empowerment, Creativity and Innovation: Challenging Media and Communication in the 21st Century.

Convenor said the conference promised to be an exceptional event for a number of reasons.

"ANZCA's history can be traced back to 1968 when speech lecturers at the then Adelaide Teachers College established a national association. Subsequent meetings and workshops transformed this plan into a mainstream media and communication association.

"This exciting gathering is coming to Adelaide, where it all started almost 40 years ago. It is also happening at a time in history when media technologies have redefined societal values and identity," Dr Anyanwu said.

Topics to be discussed include: old and new media; media ethics; indigenous media; communication and rural communities; gender issues in the media; political and business communication; computer games and interactive media; and the on-line media.

Keynote speakers will be:

  • Professor Tom O'Regan, Head of School and Professor of Cultural and Media Studies at the University of Queensland;
  • Professor Andrew Kenyon, Director of the Communication Law Centre, University of Melbourne;
  • Professor Marsha Kinder from the University of Southern California, whose interactive media projects have revolutionised digital technology and cinematic documentation;
  • Professor Anna Everett, Professor of Film, Television and New Media Studies, University of California;
  • Professor Owen Hargie, University of Ulster, Belfast;
  • Ms Sheron Wray, a UK expert who uses mobile telephony and text messaging to choreograph dance;
  • James Barker, Professor of Organisational Theory and Strategy, Waikato University, New Zealand.
