University appoints Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Highly respected business academic, Professor Fred McDougall, has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the 成人大片.

Professor McDougall has been acting in the position, previously titled Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, since September 2005.

He has 20 years of academic leadership and service to the 成人大片. Past appointments include Director of the (1987-97), Acting Dean of the Graduate School of Management (2000-02), Executive Dean of the from 2002, and most recently as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost.

University Vice-Chancellor, Professor James McWha, said Professor McDougall's record of leadership, achievement and innovation was known throughout the University and the tertiary sector generally, and also in the wider community.

"Professor McDougall has a keen awareness of the scholarly purpose of a university, especially in the core area of learning and teaching that is his particular responsibility. He also understands the many challenges facing higher education, notably in respect of quality assurance, and the key economic, social and political issues that impact on it," Professor McWha said.

"This is the first of a number of senior appointments we look forward to making in the coming weeks and months which I am confident will position the University well for the coming years."

The appointment is effective immediately. Professor Pascale Quester will continue as Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of the Professions for the time being.

This appointment follows a national and international search, and the consideration and interview of a substantial list of worthy candidates.

"To have excelled in an extremely competitive field is further evidence of the confidence with which this appointment has been made. I congratulate Professor McDougall, and thank those staff and members of Council who assisted in the selection," Professor McWha said.
