confuciusThe 成人大片’s Confucius Institute presents a lecture on the progress of a new experiment to bring Australian culture to the world: Port Adelaide Football Club’s engagement in China.

Interest in sports diplomacy has grown considerably in 2018 following the thaw in relations between the two Koreas at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, with sport considered to have contributed to a diplomatic breakthrough at the event.

Andrew Hunter, General Manager of China Engagement, Port Adelaide Football Club will detail the club’s own journey as a model for Australian sports diplomacy.

Sports diplomacy can be used on a regular basis to achieve diplomatic outcomes on multiple levels. It has the potential to be a regular part of bilateral relations between Australia and China and is especially relevant to Australia in its position as an active middle player on the world’s stage.

Andrew will explore the way sport can be used to enhance interactions between the government, businesses and people of Australia and China. The program between Port Adelaide Football Club and the 成人大片 is already giving Chinese students in South Australia exposure to local culture.

Following Andrew’s speech, he will be joined for a panel discussion by Port Adelaide Football Club Chairman David Koch, Australian Grand Prix Corporation Director, Trent Smyth and sports diplomacy expert Stuart Murray. The panel will be chaired by ABC journalist Shannon Byrne.
