Revision and support seminars:

Note that this course has changed every semester for the past several years, and it used to be called "Business and Economic Statistics". The information in earlier seminars may be out of date.

2024

This revision seminar was givern in Semester 2 2024. David discussed using z-tables and t-tables for various purposes.

This revision seminar was given in Semester 1 2024. David discussed simple linear regression including doing the hypothesis test involved.

2023

This revision seminar was given in Semester 2 2023.聽David discussed calculating standard deviations, and then talked about how hypothesis tests work and how distributions come into that. Unfortunately the video was stopped during some examples in the first part of the seminar, but the text of the example is in the notes.

This revision seminar was given in Semester 1 2023.聽David discussed probability, standard deviation (starting at 58m23s) and confidence intervals for means (starting at 1h15m38s). Also, during the seminar, David used a 100 by 100 grid handout with probability rules on the back, and this handout is also in the list below.

2022听

This revision seminar was given in Semester 2 2022. David discussed calculating probabilities for sample means (at the start), and also choosing the correct test statistics (starting at 39m48s)

This revision seminar was given in Semester 1 2022. David discussed probability,聽including terminologies such as "mutually exclusive", "exhaustive" and "independent".

2021

This revision seminar was given in Semester 2 2021. David discussed聽the idea of hypothesis testing, tests for a single mean, and the binomial distribution, then聽did several example problems from various parts of the course. (There was a problem with the video partway through, so this seminar has two videos.)

This support seminar was given in Semester 1 2021 and in it,聽David went through an example of doing an entire simple linear regression, discussing every part of the process a student might want to mention in a written assignment.

This revision seminar was given in Semester 1 2021.聽David discussed probability, including probability distributions, and also estimation and testing (starting at 59m30s).

2020

This revision seminar was given in 2020 and in it, David聽muddled through trying to find all the hypothesis tests in the course and compared them to try to figure out how to tell when to do which one. Not the most productive session, but you might still find it helpful. 聽

2018

This revision seminar was given in 2018 and covered聽calculating standard deviations (1m5s), probability (19m36s) including normal distributions (49m55s), and also test-statistics and interval estimates (1h11m36s).

2015

This revision seminar was given in 2015 and covered various聽ideas about regression including the kinds of questions that regression helps to answer, how regression is related to hypothesis testing, where to find various p-values and test statistics in the regression output, and testing for slopes.

This revision seminar was given in 2015 and covered various ideas about probability including a discussion of how to think about probability using variables, and the meaning of disjoint and independent.聽聽
