Lumen reader John Weymouth, BE Chem (Hons) 1967, shared this fantastic photo, snapped by an Advertiser photographer, of him going into the drink during a student tug-of-war in 1965. He wonders if others recognise his team-mates? 

He writes: “This tug-of-war contest was conducted annually in the 1960s between the medical and engineering students. The event was held across a section of the river under the Uni footbridge as shown in the top left of the photo. 

“There were about 10 participants on each side. It is obvious from this photo of the 1965 event that the Medical School won, which was a recurring result. We engineers put that down to the med students having two extra years of eligibility!”
